Two Phi Theta Kappa members have each received $1,000 scholarships from Phi Theta Kappa and GEICO.

The 2018 GEICO Pathway to Completion Associate Degree Scholars are:

  • Lauren Eccles, Walters State Community College, Tennessee
  • Nader Pahlevan, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Mississippi

These scholarships are presented by GEICO and Phi Theta Kappa to Society members who have held significant leadership positions on campus or in their communities, with preference given to those who have held chapter, regional, or international office.

Eccles, a high school student participating in the dual enrollment program at her college, is excelling in the honors program. She is an active member of her church, serves as a certified referee and coaching assistant with the American Youth Soccer Organization, and was recently elected as the Vice President of Scholarship for her local Phi Theta Kappa chapter. She aspires to achieve her engineering doctorate and work with “Engineers without Borders” to help others on an international level.

Pahlevan, a 4.0 student, is highly involved in his community and on his college campus. He is a member of the Reflections Team, serves as the Vice President of Leadership for his local Phi Theta Kappa chapter, and was recently elected as the PTK MS/LA Regional President. His ultimate career goal is to become a pediatrician and use his computer skills to create software that will aid humanity.

GEICO is a sponsor of Phi Theta Kappa’s annual convention and has given more than $3 million to support scholarships and programs for Phi Theta Kappa members. GEICO also provides additional scholarships to Phi Theta Kappa members for the completion of baccalaureate and master’s degrees, and for the professional development of chapter advisors.

“Here at GEICO we understand the value of education, so we are always proud to support students who demonstrate academic drive and leadership skills,” said Deedre Daniel, Senior Marketing Director of Partnerships. “We congratulate this year’s GEICO Pathway to Completion Associate Degree Scholarship recipients and wish them the best of luck in their academic careers.”
