The University of Akron (UA) is pleased to offer the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) scholarship to new transfer students*, who are members of PTK, in the amount of $2,000 annually. This scholarship is renewable for up to four years, or until the student completes a bachelor’s degree.  The total four-year value of this scholarship is $8,000 and is in addition to our other generous scholarships for transfer students.

*The PTK scholarship is designed for new incoming transfer students only.

Why does your college feel that it is important to offer a scholarship opportunity for members?

Members of Phi Theta Kappa demonstrate academic excellence, recognized through their PTK membership.  Students who make the decision to change their college or university still maintain their academic proficiency, and that should be recognized.  The University of Akron is proud to welcome transfer students, and PTK members to the Zips family!  Providing this merit scholarship ensures they can meet the costs associated with pursuing their education.

Are there other transfer scholarships that could be stacked with your Phi Theta Kappa award?

Yes, The University of Akron (UA) is pleased to offer the Provost’s Scholarship for Transfer students, which can be stacked with the PTK scholarship.  Students may also join the Williams Honors College and receive additional, stackable, scholarships.

What other opportunities are available for transfer students at your institution to assist them in successfully transitioning from community college?

New transfer students to The University of Akron (UA) can participate in the Online Transfer Orientation prior to starting the upcoming term.  New transfer students are invited to attend a special welcome event called The Transfer Remix. The Transfer Remix allows transfer students to learn more about the campus, student services and meet other new transfer students.  The University of Akron is also home to a Tau Sigma chapter, the national honor society for transfer students.  New members who meet the GPA requirement are invited after their first term at UA.   Finally, there will be starting a Transfer Learning Community for the first time in Fall 2024 to better help students transferring to UA.
