Tell us about your college’s new transfer scholarship for members of Phi Theta Kappa.
Our new scholarship for members of Phi Theta Kappa is for transfer students who will be pursuing a business degree with the Barton School of Business at Wichita State University.
Why does your college feel that it is important to offer a scholarship opportunity for members?
Wichita State University is the #1 transfer destination in the state of Kansas. Additionally, in the Barton School of Business, approximately 50 percent of our students are transfer students. By offering a scholarship for PTK members, we can provide more options for transfer students to show that we want to support them and celebrate their accomplishments and involvement with Phi Theta Kappa.
Are there other transfer scholarships that could be stacked with your Phi Theta Kappa award?
This scholarship can be stacked with our WSU Transfer Merit Scholarship (a two-year scholarship of $1,000-$1,500/semester) and our PTK All-Kansas Academic Team Scholarship (a one-year $1,000 scholarship). Students are automatically considered for the Transfer Merit Scholarship when they apply to Wichita State and meet the scholarship criteria. The PTK All-Kansas Academic Team scholarship is restricted to transfer students who served on the All-Kansas Academic Team with PTK. Additionally, this scholarship is stackable with many other generic scholarship opportunities across our campus.
In your opinion, what is one of the most impressive things about your college?
The Barton School of Business at Wichita State University is in the top 1 percent of business schools in the world because of our Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) Double Accreditation of our business and accounting major programs. Additionally, we offer a program designed to give students a professional edge as they build soft skills and learn from Wichita-area business leaders how to interview, negotiate/communicate, and what business entities are looking for when they hire candidates for new positions. The Professional Edge program, which is free for our students, allows us to bridge the gap between education and the business industry as our students acquire skills to be successful in their careers.
