Advisor Benefits

If you work on a community college campus, chances are you know about Phi Theta Kappa. Our students are the ones who are active on campus and in activities like student government, sports, and community service. They are the ones winning scholarships, tutoring their peers, and wearing the iconic PTK gold stole at graduation.

Phi Theta Kappa would not be possible without caring and dedicated community college faculty and staff members like you! We hope that you will consider working with PTK at your college as a chapter advisor.

At PTK, we like to say that we have something for everyone—and that includes our chapter advisors.

Honors Program Council

Chapter advisors have access to personal and professional development opportunities including the opportunity to serve as a member of our Honors Program Council. This multi-disciplinary group develops and publishes the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Study Topic, which guides Phi Theta Kappa's national honors curriculum.

Mosal and Marshall Awards

We also have advisor scholarships to further the personal and professional interests of Phi Theta Kappa Advisors. These awards are known as the Mosal and Marshall Awards.

Professional Networking and Growth

Serving as a PTK advisor gives provides you an opportunity to build a strong network with professionals across the country  who, like you, are dedicated to student success. We know that working for a community college means a lot of other duties as assigned, and your role as a PTK advisor is one way to help you stand out. The work you do will not only make a difference in your students' lives, it can help advance your career as well. Advising Phi Theta Kappa has helped many our advisors go on to be department chairs, administrators, and college presidents.

All of these things are in addition to the most important benefit of all—the ability to impact the lives of our members by serving as a scholarship editor, mentor, career coach, encourager, and friend.

And, if for some reason, serving as a PTK advisor isn't for you, we hope that you will support the Phi Theta Kappa chapter on your campus by attending chapter members, induction ceremonies, and by participating in Phi Theta Kappa service and research projects.
