Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is located in the heart of the Grande Ronde Valley in La Grande, Oregon. In addition to on-campus classes, the college also offers a robust online curriculum and has 11 regional centers across the state.
EOU’s tuition and fees average thousands less than other public and private colleges in the region. Its academic programs are ranked among the best in the nation; and on the small campus, students and teachers get to know each other.
Students have free access to the public transit system in La Grande, putting downtown and its shops, restaurants, and entertainment within easy reach.

Tell us about your college’s new transfer scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa members.
The Phi Theta Kappa Mountaineer Award is designed for Oregon residents who have been initiated into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Students must be admitted to EOU in order to receive this award.
Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and maintain full-time attendance. In order to receive funding, students must complete the Phi Theta Kappa Mountaineer Award application and submit proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership.
This $1,000 award will be split over your first three consecutive terms of enrollment at EOU and is stackable with all of EOU’s available scholarships.
Awards are based on full-time EOU enrollment (a minimum 12 credit hours per term).
Why does your college feel it is important to offer a scholarship opportunity for members?
Phi Theta Kappa recognizes high academic performance for community college students, and Eastern Oregon University has a long tradition of enrolling students who have community college experience. This award is another way EOU is honoring the value of that education and the achievement of our transfer students.
Are there other transfer scholarships that could be stacked with your Phi Theta Kappa award?
EOU offers a transfer student scholarship up to $2,000 per year. The $1,000 Phi Theta Kappa award can stack with the transfer student scholarship. If students have earned an associate degree, they can receive an additional $500 award, also stackable with both the Transfer and Phi Theta Kappa awards.
What other opportunities are available for transfer students at your institution to assist them in successfully transitioning from community college?
In addition to transfer student orientations offered to both online and on-campus students, Eastern Oregon University proudly accepts all college-level transfer credit from regionally accredited institutions, regardless of how long ago the credits were completed. Accepting more transfer credit than many universities allows our students to complete their degree timely and more affordably. Students can transfer in up to 75 percent of their bachelor degree program to maximize the transfer student experience.
Every one of our online and on-campus students have an assigned academic advisor at their service to help navigate the transition from a community college into a university setting. In addition to tutoring services, library resources, and a strong student-faculty ratio (17:1), EOU students are surrounded by people who want to see them succeed from the very beginning.
In your opinion, what is one of the most impressive things about your college?
At EOU, students have the opportunity to receive personal attention from professors and staff. With a student-to-faculty ratio that mirrors most community colleges (17:1), high-impact experiential learning activities are embedded in all of our programs. Most of our programs are also offered 100 percent online, which allows transfer students to finish their bachelor’s degree without having to relocate. Our goal is to create a seamless transfer experience that allows students to maximize the number of applicable transfer credits and set them up to complete their degree both timely and affordably.
Students interested in transferring to EOU can request a free Transfer Credit Review to discover how their prior coursework applies to an EOU bachelor’s degree. In addition to accepting more transfer credit than most universities, EOU offers accelerated credit options that allow students to receive credit for life experience.
