Jackson, Mississippi — Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Reginald Sykes, president of Bishop State Community College in Alabama, to its Presidential Advisory Board.

He joins 36 other college presidents from across the nation on the board and will provide input into the organization’s strategic plan, priorities, and direction.

Advisory Board members advocate for Phi Theta Kappa, its members, and its mission; serve as liaisons between Phi Theta Kappa headquarters and the college leaders in their states; and advise Phi Theta Kappa’s CEO and other senior leaders.

Sykes has served as president at Bishop State since February 2016. Prior to that, he served as president of Alabama Southern Community College. He is an honorary member of Phi Theta Kappa.

Sykes previously served as dean of students at Meridian Community College in Mississippi and as dean of student services and vice president at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jefferson Davis Campus. Before joining Alabama Southern in 2010, he was the assistant commissioner for community and junior college relations for the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning.

Sykes serves on many local boards and is a member of the Monroeville Kiwanis Club and the Atmore Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He is treasurer of the Alabama Community College System Presidents’ Association and secretary of the Alabama Community College Conference Athletic Committee.
