Niagara University will be offering a new PTK merit scholarship starting in fall 2025 to all PTK members who show proof of membership. The scholarship will be $24,000 per year, which is stackable and renewable. We will also be offering an opportunity to compete for an additional $3000 scholarship which students can stack upon the aforementioned scholarship. The competitive scholarship will require an application, short essay, and a letter of recommendation.

Why does your college feel that it is important to offer a scholarship opportunity for members?

Our transfer team believes it is vital to offer scholarship opportunities to PTK members as they have worked to reach a high academic level, along with leadership and service involvement at their current institution.  Students should be celebrated and recognized for this commitment to excellence and service.

Are there other transfer scholarships that could be stacked with your Phi Theta Kappa award?

Yes, NU offers additional scholarships for transfer students such as a $2,000 housing grant and a $1,250 Eagle Experience Visit Grant.  In addition, NU offers a Power of Niagara Grant of $5,000 to students who choose to attend Niagara from outside of New York State.

What other opportunities are available for transfer students at your institution to assist them in successfully transferring from community college?

Niagara University just approved the Transfer Student Association (TSA) which will begin in fall 2025. The goal is to give, current and new, transfers the opportunity to connect with each other, serve the community, and gain valuable leadership experience. Niagara also offers a Transfer Orientation to review key points prior to starting classes in the spring or fall.  In addition, our transfer team hosts a Transfer Meet and Greet during the second week of classes, so new transfer students can meet current transfer students, and follow up with our team regarding any questions or concerns they might have as new Purple Eagles.

In your opinion, what is one of the most impressive things about your college?

Niagara University offers students the ability to connect with a university community which actively pursues and nurtures a transfer student.  This is best reflected in a quote from our Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Timothy O. Ireland:

“Students who transfer into Niagara University from other colleges and universities bring diverse experiences and fresh perspectives to the campus. These perspectives and experiences certainly enrich the learning environment as well as the Niagara University community as a whole. In addition, transfer students bring to NU dedication, academic success, and adaptability to new environments – each of these characteristics align perfectly with our mission to foster intellectual growth by creating a dynamic, engaging learning environment for all.”

Niagara wants students to know they will always have a home on The Ridge.
