New Transfer Scholarship: Hunter College

Hunter College

Hunter College has established a $1,500 transfer scholarship exclusively for Phi Theta Kappa members. Located in the heart of New York City, the colleges has three campuses and multiple satellite facilities in several Manhattan neighborhoods and is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) public university system.

In fact, Hunter is the only CUNY institution currently offering a PTK transfer scholarship.

Hunter College offers more than 170 areas of study. It enrolls approximately 23,000 students each year, and 75 percent of graduates finish debt-free. The Princeton Review has called the school the “crown jewel of the CUNY system.”

Members in the New York Region will get a special look at Hunter College when the school hosts the region’s spring conference in March 2020. Learn more about Hunter College and its new Phi Theta Kappa transfer scholarship in this brief Q&A.

Tell us about your college’s new transfer scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa members.

The new PTK scholarship at Hunter College is for PTK members who have done exceptionally well at their previous institution. The $1,500 scholarship enables students to cover part of the cost of our tuition for two years of study at Hunter.

Why does your college feel it is important to offer a scholarship opportunity for members?

Each year Hunter College welcomes a new class of 5,500 new students, over 50 percent of whom are transfers. The diversity of students and their academic interest makes the transfer class exciting every year.

The PTK members have historically joined the Hunter Hawks in various clubs, became members of the Student Government Association, or gone on to research with faculty, thus the PTK scholarship is an opportunity to recognize the legacy of previous Hunter Hawks who came from PTK through a scholarship for new incoming students.

In your opinion, what is one of the most impressive things about your college?

Hunter College is truly a microcosm of New York City and the world. Students trace their backgrounds from over 100 different countries from around the world, making us one of the most diverse college settings in the country. Hunter is also consistently ranked one of the top value colleges, with 75 percent of our student body graduating debt-free.
