Running for International Office

An active member who has the approval of their chapter advisor and college president/CEO may seek International Office once by completing the online Candidate Application provided by Headquarters. The 2025 application for International Officers will open in Fall 2024.

  • A one-year, unpaid executive internship consisting of professional development such as strengthening public speaking, goal setting, collaborative, and organizational skills while representing the Society.

Process of Running

Commitment and Preparation

  • Self-Assessment: Candidates often start by reflecting on their reasons for running, their goals, and their vision for PTK.
  • Support System: It’s crucial to have the support of your PTK chapter and advisors, who can provide guidance and encouragement.
  • Application Process: The process typically includes submitting an application, letters of recommendation, and a campaign platform detailing your ideas and initiatives.

Campaigning

  • Developing a Campaign: Craft a clear and compelling message about why you're running and what you aim to achieve.
  • Creating Campaign Materials: This includes posters, social media content, videos, and other promotional materials to communicate your platform.
  • Engaging with Members: Attend regional and national PTK events, participate in forums, and connect with PTK members from different chapters to share your vision.

Public Speaking and Debates

  • Speech Preparation: Candidates prepare and deliver speeches at various events, showcasing their ideas and leadership qualities.
  • Debates and Q&A Sessions: Engage in debates and Q&A sessions where members can ask about your platform and leadership approach.

Voting and Election

  • Engaging the Electorate: Encouraging PTK members to vote by effectively communicating your platform and demonstrating your commitment to the organization.
  • Elections: PTK holds preliminary elections online, and semifinalist and finalist election at PTK’s annual convention, PTK Catalyst. Election day is the culmination of the campaign where members cast their votes to elect the new international officers.
