PTK offers thousands of dollars each year in emergency funds through the generosity of the Oberndorf Foundation. The Oberndorf scholarship is for Phi Theta Kappa members who are overcoming unexpected financial barriers which would prevent them from completing their degree
The scholarship is named after its benefactors, Rosemary and Lou Oberndorf. Lou co-founded Medical Education Technologies Inc., a world leader in medical education. The company’s products are used in community colleges and in the world’s leading medical schools. Lou is also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation Board of Trustees.
Award: $1,500
Eligibility:
- Be currently enrolled in 6 or more semester credits of associate degree, college-level coursework at the time of application.
- Completed 45 or more semester credits by December.
- Continue enrollment at the community college the semester after you apply.
- 3.00 or higher GPA on coursework completed in the last 5 years.
- May not hold a previous associate or bachelor's degree (previous certificates are fine).
- PTK member in good standing.
- Experienced a significant financial barrier that was unexpected.
- Academic record free from suspension, probation, or other disciplinary actions.
