Are there other transfer scholarships that could be stacked with your Phi Theta Kappa award?
At St. Francis College, besides offering an additional $500 scholarship to each PTK member, SFC also offers a variety of scholarship opportunities, which will provide PTK members additional funding that can be applied to their tuition. These scholarships include a merit-based scholarship based on the student’s GPA and the amount of credits earned at the institution, as well as a $1,000 scholarship if the student is transferring to SFC with their associate degree.
In addition to these different scholarship opportunities, St. Francis College will offer additional need-based aid related to the adjusted gross income that is presented on a student’s FAFSA. In essence, St. Francis College is looking to make a private education affordable for all students.
What other opportunities are available for transfer students at your institution to assist them in successfully transitioning from community college?
St. Francis College understands that the transfer process can be a daunting one. Personalizing each student’s experience will help build an education that will meet their needs. Transfer students who enter SFC are matched to an academic advisor in our Center for Student Success. This advisor will sit down with each student and discuss their major, the credits that will be transferrable toward their program, as well as create an “academic road map” of the various courses that will be needed in order to complete their degree. Advisors are assigned to individual students throughout their entire academic career, assisting them every step of the way and providing that personal approach.
PTK members also have the opportunity to join the Honors Program at St. Francis College, which welcomes students who are driven, curious, creative, and eager to be challenged academically in the context of a tight-knit intellectual community. The program offers students small seminars on unique and engaging topics, academic and social events just for honors students, and the opportunity to work closely and conduct research with faculty, present at regional and national conferences, and go on interesting field trips. Students also serve the community and supplement their academic experiences through engagement beyond the campus.
In your opinion, what is one of the most impressive things about your college?
One of the most impressive things about St. Francis College is that each student has an identity and is known by their name. The community at St. Francis College is one of belonging. Everyone has the ability to Dream, Serve, and Achieve. We work with each student in a personal way, from the day they enroll to the day they graduate, preparing them for opportunities of a lifetime. Students that enter St. Francis College leave with the tools necessary to succeed, and they are provided these tools through their interactions with the administration and faculty.
