The University of Akron (UA) in Ohio has a established a new $2,000 scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa members transferring to the university.
The scholarship is renewable for up to four years or until the student completes a bachelor’s degree. The scholarship is stackable with other scholarships offered by the university.

Tell us about your college’s new transfer scholarship for members of Phi Theta Kappa.
The University of Akron (UA) is pleased to offer the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) scholarship to new transfer students*, who are members of PTK, in the amount of $2,000 annually. This scholarship is renewable for up to four years, or until the student completes a bachelor’s degree. The total four-year value of this scholarship is $8,000 and is in addition to our other generous scholarships for transfer students.
*The PTK scholarship is designed for new incoming transfer students only.
Why does your college feel that it is important to offer a scholarship opportunity for members?
Members of Phi Theta Kappa demonstrate academic excellence, recognized through their PTK membership. Students who make the decision to change their college or university still maintain their academic proficiency, and that should be recognized. The University of Akron is proud to welcome transfer students, and PTK members to the Zips family! Providing this merit scholarship ensures they can meet the costs associated with pursuing their education.

Yes, The University of Akron (UA) is pleased to offer the Provost’s Scholarship for Transfer students, which can be stacked with the PTK scholarship. Students may also join the Williams Honors College and receive additional, stackable, scholarships.
What other opportunities are available for transfer students at your institution to assist them in successfully transitioning from community college?
New transfer students to The University of Akron (UA) can participate in the Online Transfer Orientation prior to starting the upcoming term. New transfer students are invited to attend a special welcome event called The Transfer Remix. The Transfer Remix allows transfer students to learn more about the campus, student services and meet other new transfer students. The University of Akron is also home to a Tau Sigma chapter, the national honor society for transfer students. New members who meet the GPA requirement are invited after their first term at UA. Finally, there will be starting a Transfer Learning Community for the first time in Fall 2024 to better help students transferring to UA.
In your opinion, what is one of the most impressive things about your college?
There are a variety of things that make The University of Akron (UA) stand out. UA is academically strong with over 200 majors available for students. UA places a high emphasis on students gaining experience during their academic career. 89% of Bachelor degree recipients at UA participated in co-ops, internships and undergraduate research.
Our most recent placement statistics show that in the Spring 2023 class 94% are employed full time or part time, participating in a volunteer service program, the US Armed Forces or continuing their education. The average starting salary was $63,806 for our Spring 2023 graduates.
UA’s student population is very diverse and includes students from around Ohio, the US and 70 foreign countries.

Are there any special events or deadlines on your recruitment calendar that you would like to share?
Prospective transfer students are always invited to attend a UA Preview Day, Future Zips Day or a Zips Visit Day. Please visit our website to sign up for an event. The domestic transfer admissions deadlines for each term are listed below.
- Spring semester – December 20th (date may be adjusted)
- Summer session – May 1st
- Fall semester – Priority Deadline July 15th, Final Deadline August 1st
International transfer admissions deadlines are June 1st for the upcoming Fall semester and October 1st for the upcoming Spring semester. First-time international students typically are not eligible to enroll during the summer semesters. Please visit the international admissions webpage for more information.
Transfer students interested in our Williams Honors College should apply by the priority deadline of April 1st or no later than July 15th.
