At least 91 four-year colleges and universities will be waiting to talk with you April 4-6 at PTK Catalyst 2019 in the Senior College Transfer Fair. Several of them are showing some extra love by sponsoring the event, hosting Educational Forums, and giving away some sweet swag.
Don’t go into the Senior College Transfer Fair without a plan. Read this to see what questions you should ask and how you should prepare.
Here are a few schools you’ll definitely want to check out, and be sure to thank them for their generosity.
Mississippi College
This private college in Clinton, Mississippi, loves recognizing PTK members and has sponsored the Hallmark Awards Gala for several years now. The school offers generous transfer scholarships to members too — $11,500 per year for on-campus students and $8,500 per year to off-campus students.
PTK members seeking an MBA at Mississippi College may also qualify for at least $500 per term. And, the college will also sometimes host a Transfer Scholarship Competition that qualifies you for additional awards ranging from $500 to $10,000.
Mississippi State University
The PTK Catalyst registration bags are generously sponsored by Mississippi State University and its Center for Distance Education, College of Education, and Office of Admissions and Scholarships. They’ll have a large presence at the Senior College Transfer Fair too, with representatives from these and its Bagley College of Engineering, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Forest Resources, and School of Architecture on site.
There are also multiple scholarship available for PTK students. The transfer scholarship awards $8,000 for two years. Those with a 3.75 GPA or higher may also qualify for an additional $1,000 award in the first year only. Chapter presidents, chapter officers, and even International Officers can receive additional awards, as can members of the All-Mississippi Academic Team. Finally, members in Mississippi may be nominated by their college presidents to receive the Presidential Partnership Scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition for two years.
Southern New Hampshire University
SNHU is another long-time friend and sponsor of PTK Catalyst. This year, they’re sponsoring the Second General Session on Friday, April 5.
Phi Theta Kappa members qualify for a $2,000 transfer scholarship to its campus in Manchester, New Hampshire, and they also offer a 10 percent tuition reduction scholarship for online programs through the College of Online and Continuing Education.
The University of Mississippi
Be sure to thank Ole Miss for the water bottles you’ll receive when you register at PTK Catalyst. Then, visit with the recruiters from the college and its School of Pharmacy at the Senior College Transfer Fair.
The University of Mississippi offers two scholarships for PTK transfer students — $7,000 per year if your GPA is between 3.25 and 3.49, and $8,000 per year if it’s a 3.5 or higher. PTK chapter presidents can also earn an additional $1,000 a year, and, if you were named a New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar, you could receive full tuition for two years — even if you’re a non-Mississippi resident.
University of Florida Online
Lanyards this year are brought to you by the University of Florida Online. UF Online courses are taught by the same faculty as the University of Florida. The program guarantees the transfer of all credits you earn at a Florida state college for your associate degree, so you’ll have no more general education requirements to fulfill once you transfer.
The face-to-face University of Florida does offer two scholarships of $4,000 each to in-state transfer students selected to the All-Florida Academic First Team, so check with the admissions and recruitment reps at the Senior College Transfer Fair to see whether the scholarship would apply to UF Online as well, and to see what else they offer transfer students.
William Carey University
This small private college is located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They always bring goodies to convention, and this year you’ll find mini-notepads for all your note-taking needs of the weekend.
PTK transfer students staying on campus could receive $6,300 per year, and those staying off campus could receive $4,500 per year. Chapter officers qualify for additional awards: $1,000 a year for presidents, $800 a year for vice presidents, and $500 a year for other officer positions.
